Egrose

Egrose started with a simple intention: to move away from the predictability of perfectly balanced glass pendants without making the object visually complicated.
The project explores how a small adjustment in form can change the identity of a familiar lighting typology. The glass volume remains clean and restrained, while its geometry avoids complete symmetry, giving the fixture a more natural character without relying on decorative details.
Every element was reduced to its essential role. A slender metal stem supports a single blown-glass diffuser, allowing the relationship between material, proportion, and light to define the object.
For me, Egrose was less about designing a statement piece and more about refining a familiar object until it felt distinctive through proportion rather than excess.

Can cracks become a source of light?

Egrose explores the idea that transformation often begins through disruption. The cracks across its surface are not perceived as imperfections, but as openings through which light and energy emerge. By turning fragmentation into a visual and functional element, the design reflects the continuous cycle of renewal, where strength can be discovered within moments of change.

01 — Inspiration

Egrose is inspired by the natural cycle of birth, transformation, and renewal. The organic shell-like structure represents a moment of emergence, where light appears from within through fragmented surfaces. Inspired by the contrast between fragility and strength found in natural forms, the design explores how cracks and imperfections can become pathways for growth, revealing beauty through transformation rather than perfection.

02 — Design Concept

The concept of Egrose is based on the idea of light as a symbol of life and continuity. The fragmented outer surface represents a transformed state, where cracks become openings that allow light to escape and interact with the surrounding space. By combining an organic silhouette with an internal light source, the design creates a dialogue between concealment and revelation, vulnerability and resilience.

03 — Design Process

The design process began with the exploration of organic structures and the visual language of natural growth. The form was developed through studies of irregular surfaces, fragmented patterns, and the relationship between solid and void. The final structure was refined to control how light passes through the openings, creating a dynamic interaction between the object, illumination, and environment.

04 — Material & Sustainability

Egrose integrates sustainable material considerations through the use of environmentally conscious materials such as recycled ceramics or composite alternatives for the outer shell. Recyclable metal components support durability and end-of-life recovery, while energy-efficient LED technology reduces power consumption and extends product lifespan. The design approach combines symbolic transformation with responsible material choices.
