Kataboo

kataboo is a flexible chandelier inspired by bamboo. Like bamboo, its characteristic is to be tied. Its pieces can be connected together so that you can have a chandelier in the dimensions and size you want.
It can also be converted into a table lamp and a wall lamp. So you have 3 light modes with desired dimensions and sizes. Inside the lamp, 9 watt LED lamps are used, which are environmentally friendly. and is connected magnetically.

Kataboo challenges the idea of lighting as a permanent and static object. Inspired by the growth and flexibility of bamboo, the system allows users to continuously modify, expand, and redefine the form according to their changing needs. Through modularity and adaptability, Kataboo transforms lighting from a finished product into an evolving experience.

01 — Inspiration

Kataboo is inspired by bamboo, a natural structure known for its flexibility, strength, and ability to grow through interconnected segments. The design translates this characteristic into a modular lighting system where individual elements can be connected and arranged in different configurations. Inspired by the way bamboo adapts and extends, Kataboo allows users to create a lighting object that responds to their personal needs and spaces.

02 — Design Concept

The concept of Kataboo is based on creating a flexible lighting system rather than a fixed lighting object. Through a modular connection mechanism, each component can be combined to achieve different dimensions and forms. The chandelier can also transform into a table lamp or wall lamp, offering three lighting typologies within one adaptable system. The design empowers users to participate in shaping their own lighting experience.

03 — Design Process

The design process began with studying the structural logic of bamboo and its ability to create continuous forms through connected segments. This principle was transformed into a modular lighting system using repeatable components and intuitive connections. The development focused on creating a balance between flexibility, simplicity, and functionality, allowing the product to adapt to different environments and user preferences.

04 — Material & Technology

Kataboo integrates magnetic connections and energy-efficient LED technology to create a practical and sustainable lighting system. The modular components can be easily assembled, rearranged, and transformed without complex installation processes. Equipped with 9W LED light sources, the design reduces energy consumption while extending the possibilities of customization through its adaptable structure.
