Ritmo

RITMO is a temporary lighting pavilion designed around rhythm, repetition, and human movement. The structure is formed through a sequence of curved surfaces that create a continuous architectural gesture while allowing light to become an integral part of the form.

A field of small light sources follows the curved structure, creating a rhythmic pattern that changes with the viewer’s movement and perception. The layered surfaces introduce variation in color, transparency, and depth, while the open structure maintains a visual connection between the pavilion and its surroundings.

Rather than functioning only as a shelter or lighting object, RITMO creates a temporary spatial experience in which architecture, light, and public activity become part of the same composition.

Can repetition create a place of its own?

RITMO explores how repeated elements can develop into an architectural experience rather than simply a decorative pattern. Through the interaction of curved structures, light, color, and human movement, the pavilion creates a temporary spatial identity that changes continuously as people move around and through it.

01 — Inspiration

RITMO is inspired by rhythm as a fundamental principle in both nature and architecture. Repetition, variation, and continuity are translated into a series of curved elements and distributed points of light.

The pavilion also considers the way people move through public space. Its open structure allows the surrounding environment to remain visible, while the changing viewpoints of visitors continuously alter the perception of the form.

02 — Design Concept

The concept of RITMO is based on creating spatial identity through repetition rather than mass.

The repeated curved elements establish a light architectural structure, while the integrated lighting emphasizes their continuity and rhythm. Color variation introduces another layer of movement, preventing the repetition from becoming visually static.

The pavilion is therefore defined by the relationship between form, light, movement, and public interaction.

03 — Design Process

The design process began with the study of curved structural elements and their repetition across a shared axis.

Different radii, intervals, and proportions were explored to achieve a balance between structural stability and visual openness. The lighting elements were then integrated into the geometry rather than treated as an additional layer.

The final configuration creates a sequence of arches that can be experienced differently from various distances and viewing angles.

04 — Material & Technology

RITMO combines lightweight curved structural elements with integrated point lighting.

The layered surfaces create variation in transparency and color while allowing the light sources to remain visible within the structure. The open construction minimizes visual mass and allows the pavilion to function as a temporary installation within an existing public environment.

The lighting is integrated directly into the architectural language, making the structure itself the carrier of illumination.
