Stick Pouf

Play with excitement! The Stick Pouf is a comfortable long cushion that can be used as a footrest or seat, inspired by the shape and structure of the video game controller shock. Its comfortable form is to everyone’s taste! To turn it into a super spin, it is enough to pull the lever of the seating area to raise its surface and rotate around by sitting on it. After getting up from the chair, the seat returns to its original position. To retract it, first grab the lever and push the seat down into the housing, then release the lever.

Stick Pouf explores the relationship between furniture and interaction by introducing movement, transformation, and play into everyday seating. Instead of being a static object, the pouf responds to the user’s actions and creates a memorable experience through simple mechanical interaction. The design demonstrates how functionality and playfulness can coexist within a single piece of furniture.

01 — Inspiration

Stick Pouf is inspired by the dynamic interaction and playful experience of video game controllers. The familiar shape and tactile characteristics of a controller were translated into a soft seating object that encourages movement and engagement. By combining the comfort of a cushion with the excitement of interactive play, the design creates a connection between furniture and user experience.

02 — Design Concept

The concept of Stick Pouf is based on transforming a simple seating object into an interactive product. Designed as a long comfortable cushion, it can function as both a footrest and a seat while introducing an innovative rotating mechanism. By pulling the integrated lever, the seating surface rises and rotates, creating a playful and dynamic experience before returning automatically to its original position after use.

03 — Design Process

The design process focused on exploring how movement and interaction could enhance everyday furniture experiences. The initial form was developed from the ergonomic qualities of a game controller, then refined to provide comfort in multiple sitting positions. The mechanical system was integrated into the structure to allow smooth transformation, rotation, and automatic return while maintaining simplicity and ease of use.

04 — Function & Mechanism

Stick Pouf combines ergonomic comfort with an intuitive mechanical system. The integrated lever allows users to activate the rotating seating surface by lifting and releasing the mechanism. After use, the seat returns to its original position, while the retractable function enables the cushion to be stored within its base. This interaction turns a conventional pouf into an adaptable and engaging seating experience.
