Datura

Datura is a pavilion designed based on biophilic values. Plants such as bamboo palm, darsena plant, pothos, spider plant, boxwood, and cissus have been used. The light emitted by AGC wildlife friendly lighting is almost invisible to animals. They cannot see the light. Using long-wavelength light of 560 nm or more, which appears amber or red, protects animals from straying and human health. These types of lamps do not disturb nocturnal animals.
The general process is that the water collects in the upper chamber and the water controller does not allow the water to flow from the top. The water is directed by the pipes inside the body, part of it is used to irrigate the plants and most of it flows towards the prepared ground reservoirs or waterways. Datura loves underground water! And so do the animals, the birds now have a swimming pool in the summer heat!
Datura’s form is inspired by nature. From the twists and turns of nature, white trumpet and lastly and most importantly Datura flower!

Can architecture become a living ecosystem?

Datura explores the possibility of transforming urban structures into environments that support both people and nature. By combining architecture, vegetation, water, and light, the pavilion becomes more than a place of gathering; it becomes a living system that encourages interaction, restoration, and coexistence. Inspired by the natural intelligence of the Datura flower, the design reveals how built environments can reconnect with ecological cycles.

Datura is inspired by the complexity and adaptability of natural systems, particularly the organic geometry of the Datura flower and the flowing structures found in nature. The pavilion translates these biological patterns into an architectural form that creates a connection between humans, plants, water, and wildlife. Inspired by the trumpet-like shape of the flower, the design explores how natural forms can become a framework for sustainable public environments.

The concept of Datura is based on creating a biophilic pavilion where architecture functions as an active ecosystem rather than a passive structure. The design integrates vegetation, water circulation, wildlife-friendly lighting, and social spaces to support both human wellbeing and biodiversity. The pavilion creates a continuous relationship between natural processes and urban life, transforming a public space into a living environment.

The design process began with the study of natural growth patterns, organic curves, and the structure of the Datura flower. The form was developed to combine shelter, planting areas, and water management into a unified system. The upper chambers collect and direct rainwater through internal pathways, allowing part of the water to irrigate vegetation while supporting surrounding natural environments. The architectural form evolved through the balance between function, ecology, and visual harmony.

Datura integrates sustainable strategies through native planting, water management, and wildlife-friendly lighting. The use of long-wavelength amber and red light above 560 nm minimizes disturbance to nocturnal animals while maintaining a comfortable environment for users. The pavilion supports biodiversity by providing vegetation, water resources, and habitats for local species, creating a healthier connection between urban spaces and nature.
